On June 15, the President of Cuba’s National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP), Esteban Lazo, concluded his visit to the Vietnamese province of Son La, where authorities thanked Cuba for its contribution to the region’s development.

There, the Cuban delegation visited the 26 de Julio dairy farm in Moc Chau, to which the island donated almost 900 cows from 1975 to 1976. The facility currently has 22,000 head of livestock, the majority belonging to the eleventh generation of the initial lots, according to information provided.

The farm produces over 90,000 tons of milk a year, which is distributed to more than 46 cities and provinces nationwide, generating profits of around 102 million dollars, added officials.

ANPP representatives were received by Communist Party Provincial Secretary, Hoang Van Chat, who expressed his gratitude for Cuba’s support to the region over the aforementioned period, and efforts to rebuild the country after the war.

In addition to other facilities, delegates visited a food processing plant during their trip to the province.

Meanwhile, Lazo, also a member of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) Political Bureau, praised Son La’s socio-economic achievements, and the work of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), government and local organizations.

He went on to explain the socio-economic situation in Cuba, its plans for national development and the functioning of the ANPP, and invited Vietnamese authorities to expand relations with Cuba by investing in the country.

Later, the delegation held a meeting with Vice President of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Tong Thi Phong, who traveled to Son La for the occasion.

During the encounter, the two leaders discussed the development of ties between the two Parliaments and ways to strengthen them, according to sources close to the delegation speaking to Prensa Latina.

The Cuban mission includes Presidents of the ANPP’s International Relations, and Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committees, Yolanda Ferrer and José Luis Toledo respectively, as well as leader of the Cuba-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, Joaquín Bernal, and Caridad Diego, a member of the group.

According to their schedule, Cuban deputies are set to travel to the city of Ho Chi Minh today, June 15, and then to the province of Ben Tre, in the south of the country, where they will conclude their activities on Sunday, June 18. They will visit sites of socio-economic interest and meet with local authorities.

The delegation began its visit to the country in Hanoi where Lazo held talks with his counterpart, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and spoke before the Vietnamese Parliament.

Later, he was received by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, President Tran Dai Quang, and Secretary General of the CPV, Nguyen Phu Trong.

Lazo also met with Truong Thi Mai, a member of the CPV Political Bureau and president of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association, after which he held an encounter with over 100 Cuban trained Vietnamese professionals.

The delegation’s visit serves as reaffirmation of the island’s willingness to continue strengthening bilateral ties, and expanding economic-trade relations to the same level as political ones.
