Demonstrate Against the Ongoing Wars of Occupation in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine & Somalia

Protest Admiral Mike Mullen's Visit to WSU; We Need Money for Education, Jobs, Housing, Not War!

Admiral Michael Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the highest ranking military officer in the United States will visit Wayne State University on Thursday. The purpose of his visit is to supposedly address the need to provide health care, education and financial assistance to returning military veterans.

Yet many military veterans in the Detroit area are unemployed, homeless and lack basic health care and support from the Veterans Administration. Despite the purported claims that the Pentagon, the White House and the U.S. Congress are supporting the troops who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, the overall conditions for these men and women remain grim.

The United States taxpayer underwrites the largest military budget in the world with little or nothing to show for it. The anual $800 billion in Pentagon expenditures should be utilized to provide education, jobs, health care, housing and cultural programs for tens of millions of unemployed and underemployed people currently living inside the country.

We call upon the students and the public in general to demand that the wars of occupation be ended. That the peoples of the Muslim world, Africa, Asia and Latin America should be viewed as the friends of the peoples of the U.S. and not our enemies.

The Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice (MECAWI) has always called for the complete withdrawl of all U.S./NATO forces from Iraq and Afghanistan. Please stand with us on August 26 at WSU to say:

No More Escalation in Afghanistan!
No More Lies About Iraq!
No $170 Billion a Year for Death and Destruction!
Money for Jobs, Education and the Community, Not War!
